Muses is hiring a dynamic and passionate part-time Sewing and Production Specialist interested in joining a lively team to develop a customized apparel production training program for underserved immigrants and refugees. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to build an innovative training program from the ground up. You will bring your expertise to designing a detailed curriculum teaching fabric cutting and sewing skills geared towards creating garment samples and production lines with specific requirements. The end goal is to equip underserved immigrants and refugees with the skills to find employment in the apparel production industry, while meeting the growing demand for local, qualified apparel makers.   You will work closely with local designers, as well as immigrant and refugee communities, to ensure the curriculum is relevant to their specific needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define the key required skills for graduating students to be successful as apparel makers
  • Collaborate with local designers and manufacturers to understand their current needs in workforce
  • Develop a specialized and detailed curriculum, including key learning milestones and training materials
  • Establish requirements around machines and materials needed for classrooms
  • Work closely with Muses team to ensure that curriculum is cohesive with other support programs (example: English classes, job placement)

Skills & Experience:

  • Expertise in garment construction (industrial and custom sewing) and technical design
  • Possess interest in sustainable/responsible manufacturing practices
  • Experience in teaching apparel production
  • Cross-cultural experience, a plus
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Innovative and strong self-initiative

Part-time position / Short-term contract with possible extension to a long-term contract / Starting date: Sept 15. (negotiable) / Salary: Pending experience level
